How Mawlamyine continues its civil disobedience campaign

In the absence of governmental authorities, and at risk of abduction and terror, it is remarkable to learn the degree to which non-violent civil disobedience campaign continues to be organized throughout the country. We recently spoke to one of the leaders in Mawlamyine, who describes exactly where the allocation of funds go within her community. As she has recently informed our team that their coffers are literally empty now, please consider what you can to support their work.

Support is provided in terms of monetary assistance, mental and physical health, and legal services.  From our experience, it is noted that monetary assistance comprises a tremendous share of support while a handful of CDM employees require other forms of support.

Based on local knowledge, CDM support is being conducted by several channels. First is individual support in which an individual provides support directly to a limited number of CDM participants. This form of support is quite abundant as it closely reflects our communities’ charitable traditions.

Second, CDM employees are being helped by groups formed by employees themselves and other interest groups. As of Feb 28th, there are a number of Facebook pages that claim to address the CDM support, such as [redacted]. The first one is a small group that provides support for educational staff.  The second group provides food on a small-scale level. The third one represents the group formed by the central CRPH CDM team. The fourth organization was formed by doctors, lawyers, engineers, community leaders, and young activists in Mawlamyine.

This group has been active since February 10th and was formed by like-minded people who recognized urgent needs in Mawlamyine and took it upon themselves to act.  Our organization is not seeking political gains from our actions, but rather reflects the desire of ordinary people to alleviate the hardships faced by those participating in CDM.
