Teaching Burmese refugees in Mae Sot
We received the following update from a group of school organizers who we have supported in the past. As they had to flee entirely to the Burma-Thai border at Mae Sot, they have asked us to share their post anonymously, as Thai authorities have been putting pressure on Burmese refugees. Still, this group has been wonderfully active in this border town, providing safety and even education to those have been running for their lives and escaping the ongoing conflict brought on by the military coup in Myanmar. If you are able to join their mission in providing educational opportunities, please consider a small contribution to their team!

It's already been fifteen months since we had to leave Myanmar. A lot has happened since then! It was challenging to reorganize the [Redacted School] after losing our grounds in Myanmar. New plans hat to be developed and connections rebuild. Thanks to the overwhelming support of our project partners, we are now at a new beginning. In March, we opened our new school for Burmese refugee children in the Thai-Myanmar border town of Mae Sot.
Tens of thousands of Burmese are fleeing the civil war in their home country and are dependent on support. Since January 2022, our team has been in Mae Sot to help the Burmese refugees. In the seven months, we have achieved many of our goals! From emergency aid in the camps and supporting the refugee families in Mae Sot to founding our school center. We have currently 38 students who are learning in three age groups. In addition to the education, they get free meals, medical care, and are welcomed into a warm and safe community. The feeling of security is significant for the refugee children, as they had to experience a lot of suffering in the past few months. In our school community, they can let go of the hardships of war and begin to heal their trauma.
With the support of our international donors, we have also been able to donate over 1000 meals, essential medicines, and shelters to the refugees in the camps around Mae Sot. We were able to provide first aid to the refugee families who had lost everything in their homeland and arrived in Mae Sot with next to nothing. Over 40 families have received accommodation, kitchen equipment, and food packages for one month.
